More and more often we hear that we are in the midst of unprecedented times, however we have experienced economic downturns in our past.  How does our current situation differ from the Great Recession?  We have experienced high unemployment in the past, but now we face the highest levels we have seen in 50 years.

How did we get here?

How will this impact our industries?

We invite you to join us and John W. Mitchell with M & H Economic Consultants for a web meeting to unpack all of this and share his thoughts on the long term implications and potential end-game.  Please register for this complimentary virtual event and click the link either at the top of this page or in the Directions section to the left to join!  We look forward to you joining us on Thursday, May 21st at 11 AM.

The Neutron Bomb Spring

A few short weeks ago the U.S. economy had record low unemployment and bright prospects for 2020 as it went through the 11th year of the upturn. Now we face a medical catastrophe, double-digit unemployment, and a precipitous decline in activity induced by the pandemic and policy responses. The stay in place orders, closures, and work from home mandates have severed the connections and interactions that were the fabric of our daily lives, and the business of many in this group. There have been massive policy responses by the Federal Reserve, Congress and the President, as well as state and local governments. The presentation will cover the decline, the response, and how it might end.  Oregon data will also be covered. The longer term questions about how this may change us in all the roles that we assume will also be considered.
