Join us virtually for a hotel industry update! We will be hearing from Vice President Breanna Smith at HVS Portland as she provides us a national outlook on the hotel industry amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Then we will have three of our very own local hotel representatives provide an update on the overall status of the hotel operation and its protocols. We look forward to seeing you!

HVS provides a national outlook for the hotel industry on hotel performance and values amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic and the related restrictions on travel, business activity, and individual movement have had a significant impact on the hotel industry. Even though the pace and degree of the COVID-19 downturn is unprecedented, market participants believe that the hospitality industry will recover and, as in the past, this cycle will create the opportunity for strong returns through well-timed and well-executed investment strategies. The presentation provides insight into current hotel performance levels, a comparison with other historical events, the recovery period, and the potential impact on hotel values.

Our three local hotel representatives will provide updates on:

  • Their hotel's status (including the effect of recent protests, if any)
  • Safety protocol
  • Employment
  • Reopening and an outlook for future trends

 

As a Vice President with HVS Portland, Breanna Smith draws on her hospitality sales experience to deliver authoritative, comprehensive, and thoroughly researched hotel appraisals, market studies, and feasibility studies. In addition to the Portland market, Breanna’s expertise extends to Idaho, particularly the greater Boise area, and the state of Washington. Her repertoire of appraisals and market studies features several unique projects, including a proposed luxury boutique hotel near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, as well as several high-end assets in the Portland and Seattle markets. Breanna earned her Certified Commercial Appraiser license in early 2019. She began her hospitality career in college, interning at the Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park in Denver and The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, while earning a BSBA in Hospitality Management from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Breanna later rose to revenue- and sales-management positions at Marriott International. In these roles, she made corporate sales for full-service Marriott-branded hotels across Texas, conducted strategic analyses and daily management of hotel transient guest performance data, and created strategies to maximize hotel revenue.

Joye C. Lucas has been in the hospitality industry for 22 years and earned her BA in Communications from Eastern Washington University. She began her career in hospitality at the front desk at the Davenport Hotels in Spokane, WA. She then moved to Miami and began her sales career at Mandarin Oriental for 4 years in luxury leisure sales. To challenge herself with a new environment, she took a sales position at the St. Regis, Deer Valley in Park City, UT where she was the Director of Leisure Sales for 4 years.  Family is the most important to her, and she decided to move to Portland in 2014 to join her twin sister. She has worked at The Nines and Heathman Hotel, before joining the Hilton Portland and The Duniway in 2017. 

Joye was born in Nicaragua and raised in the Republic of Panama. She enjoys spending time with her family, her son Dylan who is 3, loves to travel, a good beach day and going to concerts, specifically to see Dave Matthews. She has fallen in love with the Oregon and very happy to call Portland Home

 

Working with Jupiter and Jupiter NEXT as their Director of Business Development, David Mogg draws on his many years of experience to help develop and increase streamlined sales operations, marketable brand equity and revenue NOI. David's experience in operating, opening and marketing hotels began in Australia, Spain and Greece before arriving in Los Angeles and opening the flagship west coast AKA Beverly Hills. David then managed Palisociety's at that time three Los Angeles locations and helped develop their expansion into the Pacific Northwest with locations in Seattle, San Francisco and the currently still in renovations, Portland location. Most recently together with Jupiter Hotel, he was able to facilitate quickly bringing together a deal with Multnomah county in the first weeks of Oregon's COVID-19 crisis that saw their motel portion utilized to serve some of Portland's most vulnerable communities and guarantee an income source for the hotel.

Erin Hopkins has almost 20 years in the hospitality profession, first entering the industry as a private chef gradually moving from operations into sales.  After graduating from culinary school, she continued her education at Portland State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing, minor in Business Administration and studied at the University of Westminster in London, England earning a certificate in International Mergers & Acquisitions.   Throughout her career she has participated in a number of local associations including ILEA (past board member), MPI, OBTA, Art of Leadership, and Junior League of Portland to name a few.  In her spare time, she loves socializing with friends and family over a home cooked meal, snuggling with her fur babies, and traveling with her husband.
